Hiring Outside of the Company

When it comes to filling a new position within your company you are given an opportunity to promote from within or casting your net out into the workforce and bringing in someone new.  Depending on the kind of business and the nature of the position to be filled, there can be many benefits to finding that perfect fit outside the company.

One of the biggest benefits of hiring outside the company is the infusion of new blood into the environment.  At The Essex Companies, our recruiters make the process simple.  We will screen the potential applicants to ensure that we are sending over potential employees who are a good fit for your company and culture.

Whether you are in a creative field and are looking to offer different perspectives or a whole new skill set, sometimes you just can’t train that kind of thing into existing employees and need to search for someone with a particular set of skills or ideas.  This can in turn lead to more productivity from your current team, who may be used to doing things a certain way.  Finding someone new who can challenge existing procedures and processes can be invigorating when the chemistry is on point.  The tricky thing is finding someone with all that fresh perspective who will also fit in with the culture you have established, something that has become increasingly important in today’s workplace.

Companies these days are developing a unique work environment based on mutual interests, goals, and work/life balance.  Many brands recognize that we spend much of our time at work, so why not create an environment that works towards employee connectivity and involvement as well as showcases the values that business supports.  Say the owners were to hire a brilliant new designer with more traditional workplace ideas. If that person is in a position of power, the culture is in jeopardy, the company is in danger of losing the talent that was attracted by the culture in the first place.  If the new hire is not in a position of power, but still doesn’t fit in with the rest of the office, he or she might be the ones looking for a new job once they fully realize how mismatched they are—and there goes all the time and money the employer put in to finding that new hire!

Hiring from within the ranks makes the most sense when that is your intention from the beginning of an employee’s tenure with the company.  This can be a real selling point when bringing in new people-the opportunity for growth.  This will attract better quality applicants and motivate them to perform at their best from the outset. This also creates loyalty when these assets are targeting by rival companies. They are not going to want to start someplace at the bottom when they have already put in the time with your company.

Clearly, there are reasons for hiring outside your current employee pool.  It probably makes sense to establish the what criteria absolutely needs to be met before making that decision, but if you do decide to widen your search, may we suggest coming to us, professionals that can weed through the countless applicants to help find the perfect fit?
